Who’s so big?

Tomorrow Wyatt turns 3 months old… Well actually today as it’s past midnight. As usual, I’m writing this in the dark on my cell phone while my boys sleep beside me.

We’ve made huge strides these past few weeks. I feel like I know my son better and better each day. Then, he surprises me with a new milestone and I’m shocked at how fast he learns and changes each day.

We started Mommy and Baby yoga two weeks ago. Our first afternoon class coincided with nap time. Although it wasn’t an epic fail, it did mean a few minor meltdowns. This week we switched to the morning class and Wyatt was happy the entire time. I successfully managed to do a few poses and stretches with him glued to my boob. It’s funny what you consider a major success as a Mother.

In this week’s yoga class, we practised pulling the babies up to a sitting position and proclaiming, ”Who’s so big!?!?”. Well, my little man must enjoy the encouragement because that evening upon receiving my hands he pulled himself up. He’s consistently done it each time I offer my hands to him since then. Yeah, he’s so big now.

Today,  we ventured out to a local babywearing group meet up. I am very happy that my friend encouraged me to attend. It’s really nice to meet other Moms. We visited our local museum which I had never been to. I carried Wyatt in my brand new Girasol ring sling – a rainbow sling for a rainbow baby. I just received it this week. So far, it works well. The museum visit was our longest stretch in the ring sling and even he fell asleep in it.

This week,  we also used the Ergo for a winter walk. I didn’t think my stroller would make it after a snowfall with unshovelled sidewalks. Wyatt was so calm, yet curious of everything to see in the neighbourhood. I enjoyed some time outside since the weather was closer to 0 degrees and sunny. I never saw myself as a babywearing Momma, but so far, I’m loving it. The closeness is what makes it so special.

We reached another major milestone tonight. I left Wyatt for 4 hours at home with his Dad to attend my monthly Splurge group. To date,  he’s always attended with me. Mike successfully gave him 2 pumped bottles with a bit of resistance. He takes it, but with a bit of a fight to get him started. What are your thoughts? Should we continue with the Calma nipple until he gets used to it? Or try another kind?

I did better than I thought I would with leaving him. I texted Mike a few times to check in, but I wasn’t really worried. This actually surprised me, but I guess it shows that I trust my husband as a capable father.

I arrived home to find both of them asleep. I pumped my right boob to make up for the bottle feed and managed to get 4oz in about 10 mins. I hate pumping, but I usually can pump a decent amount. I still hope to primarily breastfeed, but it’s nice to know that pumping for the occasional night out is an option.

Once Wyatt realized I was home, he had a cry and a big feed, then easily went back to sleep.

My favourite moments over the past few weeks have simply been interacting with him. He truly is such a happy baby. He loves to babble on and on. He constantly smiles back at you. He even started baby talking when I’m singing to him –  makes me think he wants to sing too! 🙂 Breastfeeding has given us a strong bond. I often find myself putting my phone down or turning the tv off just  to be in the moment with him –  our eyes locked and holding hands. There’s so much peace and joy to be found in those moments.

Merry Christmas!

Wow. What a year it has been.

If you had asked me a year ago if I imagined us celebrating our first Christmas with our child, I would have hoped so, but I never would have been able to predict just how great it truly is.

Over the past few weeks, I was struggling with Christmas. My family won’t get to share in Wyatt’s First Christmas with us. I was stuck in a cycle of nostalgic longing; reminiscing on the traditions from my own childhood. Earlier this week, I decided to make the most of it and find a way to add some magic to this Christmas.

Wyatt is too young to understand all of the festivities, but we still made some great memories.

From our family to yours, Merry Christmas. May all your dreams come true this year. XO ❤

I did what everyone tells you not to do

I looked.

Well,  first I lightly patted while in the tub. With just the slightest touch,  I knew it was bad.

Then today,  the public health nurse checked it for me. Before she even got close, she cringed and said, ” Oh my! That’s a LOT of swelling.

After that, I HAD to look. I’m just that kind of person.

I got a mirror and placed it on the bathroom floor. I stood over top, took a deep breath and glanced down.

She ain’t pretty.

She’s actually more comparable to horrific right now.

My poor perenium. 😦

No one recorded what degree my tear is. The public health nurse thought maybe someone had told me. I think they just wanted to spare me the graphic details.

My bum hole seems intact even though it doesn’t seem to have much control. When I gotta go,  I gotta go… And lucky me, that’s been twice since delivery.

I guess that means it must not be a 4th degree, maybe not even 3rd degree tear. The nurse couldn’t tell from all the swelling. She could barely find the stitches.

I just assumed I needed fixing up due to the episiotomy. My OB took way longer to stitch it up than I had expected though.

After looking, it’s obvious I tore to the side way beyond the small incision the doctor made to allow the forceps to enter and baby to come out.

I’ve got strict instructions from the nurse to stay off my ass (how often does someone hear that?), soak in the tub as much as possible, ice it, use perenium spray and padsicles.

I guess that’s what happens when your baby drops and engages weeks before labour begins, gets stuck in the birth canal after you push for 3 hours and then, requires a forcep delivery.

Oh well…

He was worth it. ❤

29 week bumpdate

How Far Along: 29 weeks and 5 days

Meds: All taken daily – prenatal vitamin, Omega 3 + DHA, Ranitidine (2x/day), Magnesium (250mg at bedtime as per my chiro’s recommendation), Gaviscon for heartburn as required (which is OFTEN!).

Baby is the size of: a pineapple or a winter squash

Best Moments This Week:

  • Making a few more purchases for baby
  • My husband getting excited about feeling him kick
  • Realizing I ONLY have just over 10 weeks left til my due date
  • Having my crib bedding arrive (more to come on this one!)
  • Watching the cat play under the crib. It’s his new favourite spot… which may be a bad thing.

Total Weight Gain: Didn’t weigh myself this week – AGAIN! My appetite has increased, so I expect a gain. As of 2 weeks ago, I was up 10.2 lbs.

Maternity Clothes: All the time now. Still loving anything cotton and stretchy.

  • GROWTH SPURT! I swear I got huge this past week – or it just feels like that.
  • Less heartburn! I started going to acupuncture again and I would like to attribute the lessening of the heartburn/acid reflux to the treatment.
  • Leaky boobs!!! Yesterday, I was having a lazy, no-bra day at home. I looked down and I had wet spots on my shirt multiple times throughout the day. I haven’t noticed it yet today now that my bra is on though.
  • Sore back and shoulders
  • Peeing constantly. It feels like every half hour some days!

Sleep: Haven’t been sleeping great this week. Lots of tossing and turning. It’s hard to get comfortable.

Food Cravings:  Peaches, Snickers chocolate bars (this one is bad! haha), French Toast – which I have yet to fulfill

Anything making you queasy or sick: Smell of meat, cleaning left-overs out of the fridge, really stinky smells

Movement: He’s a rockin’ and a rollin’ in there. He was quiet mid-way through the week due to another growth spurt, but he kicked me all day long yesterday. My husband tends to miss the big kicks, but he loves feeling them when he can. The baby also loves to switch between punching my bladder and kicking my ribs. #shortwaistedproblems

Stretch Marks: Yes, on my lower tummy.

Baby Bump: Growing and growing…

Gender: BOY

Labour Signs: Too early.

Belly Button In or Out?: Innie

Wedding Rings on or off?: Off due to the heat.

Happy or Moody?: Very good week. We escaped to our friend’s cabin for the weekend. It felt great to unwind and relax by the lake.

Purchases for baby: A print from HomeSense to hang in the baby’s room; cloth diapers (more to come on this one too!),

Purchases for Momma: A breast pump

Miss Anything?: Being able to sleep fully reclined, not having it be such a huge effort to get up from a seated/lying position,

Looking forward to: Our OB appointment later today!
