Blog Award Q&A: get to know me better

I was recently nominated for the following:

THANK YOU for recognizing me and sharing in my journey.

My questions and responses for the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award:

What would be your dream job (independently wealthy not being an option)?

I have always wanted to be a writer.

Describe yourself using one word, then explain why you chose that word.

STRONG. I never imagined out fertility journey to be so trying, yet at the same time, it’s been so enlightening. I am a stronger person because of it.

What about this TTC journey has surprised you the most?

How drawn out it can be. When started trying to conceive, I never thought it would take years.

Also, how little other people know about infertility and how insensitive they can be.

Do you have siblings? How many? What are they like? (ooh a 3 fold-er)

I have a younger sister and brother who are twins.

My brother is funny. We’ve always had a great relationship.

My sister and I have always had a rocky relationship and currently aren’t speaking.

If you could travel to any place in the world, where would it be and why?

Paris is my dream vacation. I love French culture. I speak French and I’ve always wanted to visit Paris.

I’d like to visit the tourist spots, but to also immerse myself in Paris life. I would find a cozy cafe, grab a glass of red wine and write in my journal as I watch the people on the streets.

Where did you meet your SO and what was your first thought?

I met him at a small town bar. My friend owned it and I worked there on the weekends for a bit when I was first getting started in my career. Honestly, my first thought was “Who the hell is this guy?” (as he was trying to pick me up and I had no clue who he was). After that, I thought, “Wow! He has nice blue eyes.

Name three things in your handbag right now.

Nail file. Hand moisturiser. Lip gloss.

Who’s the last person you spoke to on the phone and what were you talking about? (if I may be so bold)

My husband. I was trying to get directions through a part of town I’m not familiar with.

What do you love doing the most in the whole world?

Being outside in the sun on warm summer days.

What do you hate the most about your life right now that you have the power to change, and why haven’t you changed it yet?

My relationship issues with family. I need to focus on myself throughout our fertility treatments. I just can’t spend the energy on them right now.

7 random facts about me for the Versatile Blog Award:

  1. I have an abundance of black clothes. I swear I do like colour, but my closet seems to be dominated by black.
  2. I always have my toe nails painted
  3. I was the PR rep for my elementary school’s student council. Yes, I was the girl on the morning announcements.
  4. Yesterday, I turned 29.5 years old. There are 6 months – 1 day until my 30th birthday.
  5. I have never been a bridesmaid.
  6. The first time someone told me they loved me, I felt like it was the scene from the Little Mermaid when they sing, Kiss the GirlYes, I even was in a wooden boat except we didn’t have singing birds, crabs and fish. Too bad, eh?
  7. I play on a women’s fastball team. We won our league championships last year.

Since most of the bloggers I follow have already been nominated for one of these awards, I’m going to change things up.

I challenge you to write an answer to this question:

What is the biggest lesson you have learned from your fertility journey?

Are you ready to join the sisterhood?

According to Katie, I am nominated for a Sisterhood of the World Bloggers award. Thank you Katie for nominating me and following my journey! The world of online blogging is truly a sisterhood. I’ve met so many friends through my blog.

My Q&A:

I love how these awards give us an opportunity to get to know random facts about each other.

1. Why did you start blogging?

I’ve always been drawn to writing. It’s my creative outlet.

As we embarked on our fertility journey, I knew it had potential to be a bumpy ride. I turned to writing as a form of self-care. I needed to release my feelings and frustrations while connecting with other women who understood exactly what I was/am going through.

2. How did you pick the name of your blog?

I always knew our first baby would be a girl. I planned on naming her Autumn, hence the blog name, “Awaiting Autumn”.

As my blog evolved, I realized many major life events have happened in the season of Autumn – my big move to the Prairies, meeting my husband, moving into our current home, my wedding, my first IVF cycle, our pregnancy loss, etc…

If the trend continues and this FET is a success, we will also be due next Autumn. Coincidence? I sure hope so!

Side note: We named our Angel baby Emme as we both felt it suited her better. We also wanted to save Autumn in case we are blessed with the opportunity to have another daughter.

4. Sweet or savoury?

Ohhhhh man. Difficult one.

The new, healthier me is going to go with savoury.

5. Where would you love to visit?

It’s on my bucket list.

6. Do you like big, fast roller coasters?

YES I DO! On roller coasters, I prefer the front seat for the best view or the back seat for the fastest ride. My wonderful husband does not like them though. We have braved the ferris wheel together, but that’s about it.

7. What’s your favourite meal?

I love Italian (pasta, pizza, etc) or Thai food (pad thai, coconut curries, etc)

8. What’s your favourite book?

I’ve read many books in my day, but I honestly don’t have one favourite book.

My favourite kids book is Goodnight Moon.

9. What one piece of advice would you give your 18 year old self?

Be true to yourself. The only love that truly matters is how you love yourself.

10. Is chocolate ruined by fruit and nuts?

Definitely not! Chocolate covered almonds, mmmmm. Chocolate covered berries, mmmmm. It’s all good.

One Lovely Blog Award

one-blog-lovely-awardTHANK YOU to the following bloggers for reading my blog, getting to know me and recognizing me for such a nomination:

I have said it often and I’ll say it again: I do not think I would have made it this far on my journey without the online infertility community. You have been my rock. Thank you for recognizing me.

The criteria for accepting the One Lovely Blog Award is:

1.  Thank the person who has nominated you and provide a link to his/her blog.

2.  List the rules.

3.  Include 7 facts about yourself.

4.  Nominate 15 other bloggers and let them know that they have been nominated.

5.  Display the award logo in your post.

7 Random Facts about Me

1. I am an Android user. I have never owned a iPhone. I have a Nexus Tablet and a Chromebook (although I will admit one day I’d maybe get a Macbook).

2. I had pin straight hair until I hit puberty. Now, it’s wavy/curly and awfully unruly in humidity. I often wish it was just one or the other, super straight or super curly. Being in the middle is sometimes more difficult to deal with (kinda like infertility haha).

3. I played clarinet in my high school band. I loved band even thought most of my friends didn’t understand why I would like it. We always went on the best field trips. I also used to play piano and would consider taking it up again.

4. Every year I take my chihuahuas for photos with Santa. I wonder if I can bring Oliver the cat this year? Although I love sending Christmas cards in the mail, I also use this photo as an e-card that I email to some people and post to Facebook.

5. I am a Cancer-Leo. I was born on the cusp. This means I’m emotional + LOUD. What a great combo!

6. I wear glasses 99.9% of the time. I used to wear contacts until I started working in an office. I can’t wear my contacts and stare at the computer screen. I also tend to get dry eye and suffer from allergy conjunctivitis. These days, the only time I wear contacts is during ball season or to special occasions like weddings.

7. September 14 was the 8 year anniversary of my move to Saskatchewan. I’m an Ontario import, but Saskatchewan is definitely now home.

My Nominations

I’ve decided to nominate a mix of infertility and pregnancy blogs. It truly feels like so many of my blog friends have been fortunate enough to cross over into the realm of pregnancy. On that note: Sensitive infertiles beware! Click at your own risk!
