Today, I am 40 weeks, 1 day.
I just got back from an OB appointment. He did another membrane sweep. As I expected, it was more uncomfortable this time and it lasted a lot longer than the previous time. Following the sweep, I had some pinky-red discharge, but since then it’s turned to brown. I’m also a bit crampy, but not too bad.
He estimated me at 2cm dilated, 60% effaced and baby at a station of -1.
He booked me in for my next appointment at 41 weeks, but doesn’t think I will go that long. Ughhh I really hope so.
Following the appointment, my husband and I went for a walk around a lake in a subdivision near our house. I’ve been walking a minimum of once a day. There’s a tobogganing hill in a park near our house that I’ve been doing side squats up and down as well. We ate some spicy Thai food again this week. I also have been going to Acupuncture 2x a week and Chiro 1x a week. More than anything else, I’ve been using my birthing ball to bounce and do hip rotations. It actually feels nice to get on there and relieve some of the pressure.
I’ve noticed I’m a lot more tired each day. I still get up to pee every hour or two all night long. Since baby got even lower this week, it’s almost harder to pee though, seems like it takes forever to come out. And even though you think you have to go, there’s barely any in there compared to what my bladder used to be capable of holding.
As for back and pelvic pain, I’m actually moving a lot better than I was when I was working. I think being more active is helping. My SPD pain is still there on my right side, but I’m learning to manage. Night time is my most uncomfortable time though. I dread climbing into bed. It’s super hard to roll over and get out of bed these days.
I’ve been experiencing false labour every night for the past 3-4 nights too. I wake up about midnight when the cramping/contractions start. Typically, I’m only up for half an hour to an hour until I can sleep through them. They are always gone by morning though. My OB said this is a good thing as my body is getting ready.
It’s just a waiting game now. I hoped the baby would arrive today to celebrate his Daddy’s birthday with him, but it looks like we will be waiting a bit longer. My OB is on-call tomorrow. It would be ideal if the baby came then as we are both comfortable with our OB (and he isn’t on call again until late next week).
But as I said before… clearly this decision is up to our little man and not us.
Please send me positive birthing vibes! ❤
Lots of positive birthing vibes heading your way mama!!!

My doc didn’t think I would make it to my 39 week appt and I gave birth the morning I was supposed to have it. When he was all done I said “hey-I have an appt this afternoon, can you cancel that for me?” And he was like “CALLED IT.”

Oh man I hope I don’t make it past this weekend! But I’ll take anytime before 41 weeks if it’s not sooner.

I know it seems impossible, but you’ll feel back to normal so much sooner than you realize. Now looking back I honestly have a hard time believing I was pregnant. It’s just a total mind-eff.

Haha I can totally see that. I’m looking forward to having my insides not feel so squashed

Completely agree with that. It has only been 2 months and it feels like a lifetime ago. Same with labor. It is like it all happened to someone else.

I had a beautiful natural birth (not unmedicated–back labor drove me to finally get an epidural at 6cm after 27 hours of labor) and I delivered at 41+3…I *almost* went for an induction b/c I was uncomfortable in what I will call the “twilight” period just before labor/giving birth. It felt like time had stopped and I was just going through life in slow motion. I’m SO GLAD that I didn’t induce though, because I git to labor mostly at home with Mr. MLACS and my doula–just how I wanted–with my bathtub, candles, music, pillows, pets nearby…it was magical and beautiful. Evenif you have to wait another week, it will be so worth it in order to have the ethreal birth experience of your dreams. Imagine yourself walking through the forest at dusk, with light peeking through the trees…soon it will be dark and you will have to feel your way through (that is what labor is like) and then it will be dawn and you’ll hold your son. XOXO

Thank you for that visual. I’m trying to hold on as long as I can before even entertaining the idea of medical induction. They won’t do it here until 10 days past due anyway. I am confident my body can and will go into labour on its own. It’s just that we can’t predict when (you would think I would be used to that concept by now). I’ve been reading the book Natural Hospital Birth and it really promotes staying home and bring comfortable in your own surroundings for as long as possible.

Definitely stay home as long as you can. Trust your doula and your body to know when you’ll want to leave for the hospital. The bath is great. I had a large (rice) heating pad infused with lavender that I kept re-heating and placing on my lower back for coubter-pressure. The ball is great. I alternated contractions on the floor in child’s pose (legs spread wide) and on my knees on the couch with upper body draped over the back of the couch. You’ll find your way ❤

Sending positive birth vibes to you and little man!
With regard to the bladder thing, when I was reaching the end, I would lean forward after peeing so my body was almost horizontal and that would allow things to “open up” and empty a bit better. Might be worth a shot? (I hope that makes sense, ha ha. Babe was so low down that my bladder didn’t have much space!)
