I just returned from my 38 week OB appointment.
The good news is that receptionist that I struggled with earlier on in my pregnancy has left the practise. His wife is temporarily doing the reception duties and she’s such a nice lady.
Overall, things are going well. My Strep B swab came back negative! Whohoo! Blood pressure is still good. I have minimal to no swelling.
My iron is still really low though. Once my bowels started moving better earlier this week, I finally caved and started taking my iron pills every other day. Hopefully that will help a bit before delivery.
He wanted to wait until the next appointment to do a cervical check, but I insisted that he check today. I’m currently 1-2 cm dilated and 40% effaced… which at this point means pretty much nothing. Could be days or could be weeks. I also had the membrane sweep done. Surprisingly, it didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would. Baby is low and in the right position.
The unfortunate news is my OB is away at a conference next week. Due to his lack of availability, my next appointment isn’t until 40 weeks, 1 day. He doesn’t seem concerned since I’m showing no reason to be. He also joked that I need to hold off until he’s back to have the baby.
So, that’s where things are at. I plan to focus more on natural induction methods over the next week and see if that results in any progress.
Let’s get this baby moving! Mommy and Daddy are ready to meet you!
I’m curious to know what natural induction methods you’re going to be using….would you do a post on that? Would love to bookmark it for a few months from now for myself!

Lots of awesome happening soon I think!!! I’ve always found it really interesting how women walk around with the cervixes dilated and have no idea. I feel like that’s something I should somehow be aware of lol. Hopefully the sweep does the trick for you. Your OB wasn’t necessarily going to deliver your boy anyway right?

No he isn’t. We have an on-call rotation. You get whoever is on at the time.

So no big deal if you have baby B while he’s away then 🙂

What’s this sweep thing? I’m glad your little man is sitting where he should be, and that things are at least a little bit started. Hopefully you don’t have to wait a whole 2 weeks to meet him!

The doctor inserts a finger in the cervix and sweeps the membranes. It’s not a nice visual picture haha

Lol no it isn’t…but nothing in the TTC world is, is it? That seems like nothing compared to some stuff we go through! What do they do it for? Just to check things out?

It can induce labour. It’s a less invasive option compared to the drug inductions. Really it wasn’t that bad at all.

Wow! It’s so close! How did we get here? I’m glad you had him check. Even though you can be 1-2 for weeks, it’s good to know you’re dilating! Someone in my prenatal yoga class was 40+2 and not dilated at all. 😨

Yes I did some research online tonight and read that. It was my Chiro who encouraged me to get him to check. She’s been so informative in sharing her own birthing stories. I’m glad we are seeing progress. Just hope it keeps up!

FYI I’ve known a few women to go into labor about 36 hours after a sweep

I had acupuncture today too. She started slow though. No electrical yet. Will see if that does anything. 🙂
